The Impact social that Impact Connect held on February 2nd at the University of Waterloo was a huge success, leaving Waterloo students and Impact members alike to be motivated and excited!

The session was very successful, with over 50 Waterloo students in attendance. A number of  Impact members were also there to share their experiences of being part of Impact, as well as to outline Impact’s plans for the upcoming year.

At the end of the session, many students stuck around to network and mingle with the Impact members, and many expressed interest in becoming involved with Impact’s programs in 2010!

If you were unable to attend Tuesday’s Impact social but are still interested in becoming a part of Impact team, please feel free to contact laura.chelaru (at) impact.org.

As many already know, Impact Connect and Yahoo! had ran the Hack U competition at the University of Waterloo in both 2008 and 2009.  For those who don’t know, HackU is a week-long coding festival challenging the  brightest of the University of Waterloo’s programming community.  The HackU competition is held across Canada and the U.S. and challenges students to develop a web application that solves a problem in 24 hours or less.

In the 2008 HackU competition run by Impact Connect, Waterloo graduate Addy Cameron-Huff won with his application that tracks speeches made by Canadian politicians, allowing constituents to follow the progress of their MPs.

One year later, Cameron-Huff moved on to the HackU finals held in New York City, competing against teams from universities such as Berkeley, Cornell, and the University of Washington. Approximately 40 teams had just two minutes to present their hack.

In New York, Cameron-Huff blew away his competition with his application that sent out instant alerts about insider trades for various stocks.

With these key victories, Impact Connect is proud to have helped Mr. Cameron-Huff on his path to success.

EDIT:  Thanks to Addy Cameron-Huff for posting the link to his presentation!  You can watch it here.
